Dalmore

The Dalmore distillery was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson on the banks of the Cromarty Firth in Alness, north of Inverness, but its heritage dates back some six centuries earlier, when Colin of Kintail, Chief of the Clan Mackenzie, saved King Alexander III from a charging stag in 1263.

In recognition of this heroic act, the King granted permission to the Mackenzie Clan to use the 12 pointed stag emblem on their coat of arms and, when the Mackenzie's descendants became owners of The Dalmore distillery in 1867, the Royal Stag was adopted as its emblem. To this day the stag sits proudly on each bottle of The Dalmore.

The distillery prides itself on an unbroken chain of influential visionary craftsmen, setting standards over its 175 year history that many whisky makers follow today. The personal curation of casks, combined with expertise passed through generations of distillers, and the obsession of all those involved in production, results in a world-renowned luxury single malt.
