Glentauchers

Glentauchers was founded in 1897 by two famous whisky blenders of the day: James Buchanan and WP Lowrie. The two had been business partners since 1884, when Lowrie backed Buchanan with both money and whisky in the creation of his first whisky, 'Buchanan Blend' (which was later renamed as 'Black and White').

The vast majority of Glentaucher's malt goes into blends, mostly Ballantine's and Teacher's. Less than 1% is kept back for release as a single malt. An official bottling of 12 year-old was available from the 1980s, but was replaced by a 15 year-old in 2000 while the distillery still belonged to Allied. There have been occasional independent bottlings from Gordon & MacPhail and Douglas Laing.
