This is a find. Selected and bottled by the legendary John Milroy of Soho, for a private client in 1998. We were fortunate enough to bag the final 24 bottles and now have them for sale. A similar OB, if you could find it, would run in to many thousands of pounds for a bottle. Bottled at 50.00% ABV, you can have a classic 1960s Balvenie for less than half this price. This is one of the greatest Balvenies of 50 years plus, that we know of.
On the nose, classic Balvenie notes of butterscotch and beeswax, but elegant and refined. A grand dame. The alcohol has subsided over the 20 years in the bottle and allowed the deliciously complex flavour notes to come through. On tasting, there is an oily rush of malt and floral pepper spice with vanilla and a little bourbon kick. The finish is long with creamy vanilla and cacao and quince.
An outstanding whisky. One for the bucket list.
